The Crossover!!!!!!

Joshua 3: 1Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and they set out from Acacia Grove and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they crossed over. 2 So it was, after three days, that the officers went through the camp; 3 and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it. 4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.”

5 And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” 6 Then Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the people.”

So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.

7 And the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

Whether we realize it or not, we cross over many times in our lives. We cross over from non-existence to then being in the womb, from the womb to being born, from an infant to a child to a teenager, then finally an adult. We have a tendency to think that once we cross over into adulthood, our phases of transition are over. However, transition is a life-long process. Now that we have crossed over into a new year many of us have a list of resolutions that most times remain incomplete. These lists are made with good intentions but what we don’t realize is that instead of resolutions, we need to be in search of solutions to the problems that are holding us back. The first part of any solution is attitude and a willingness to be guided. Who we are looking to for guidance is also part of the solution. It is not necessarily a bad thing to look to others for guidance but we must first look to God for guidance so we can learn to move when He moves. Many of us are looking to transition and cross over into greatness but simply don’t know how. In the passage above, Joshua is a representation of how we can get to the point of transition that we are seeking. There are 3 things we need to do:

1) Make a commitment to watch, putting ourselves in a position where we can see God.

2) Follow God and move when He moves allowing God, not man, to be our pathfinder.

3) Honor God by sanctifying ourselves and making room in our lives for God to move.

Sounds easy enough but if it was we’d already be doing it. Fortunately for us, God gives us all the guidance we need through His Word. Our job is to pay attention and trust God with the understanding that our path is not always going to be smooth. There will always be trials, tribulations and failures on the path to greatness, but with God as our navigator we will never be steered wrong. Make God your pathfinder today.  In the words of our  Overseer “If you get yourself together today He’ll do something tomorrow”. Those 3 things listed above are a great way for all of us to start getting ourselves together and on the path to righteousness. Peace and blessings.
